In a significant breakthrough, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have successfully solved the recent grenade attack case that occurred at the Tourist Reception Centre (TRC) in Srinagar, injuring 12 civilians. Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, V K Birdhi, said the arrest of three local terrorists affiliated with the Lashkar-e-Toiba outfit, who executed the attack under the direction of handlers based in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK).
The grenade attack, which took place during a busy Sunday market on 3rd November, left several victims critically injured, including a woman named Abida, who is a mother of young children, and Habibullah, the sole breadwinner for his family, who also has a bedridden son. The incident raised alarm among local residents and authorities alike, prompting an immediate response from law enforcement.

IGP Birdhi detailed the swift actions taken by the Srinagar police, stating that dedicated teams were formed to investigate the incident thoroughly. “Within no time, we managed to crack the case and apprehend those responsible for this heinous act,” he said during a press conference. The arrested individuals have been identified as Usama Yasin Sheikh, Umar Fayaz Sheikh, and Afnan Ahmed, all hailing from Ikhrajpora in Srinagar. They have been booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), with a case registered at the KothiBagh Police Station in Srinagar.
The IGP emphasized the importance of community safety and vowed to continue efforts against terrorism in the region. “These terrorists acted on instructions from their handlers across the border. We will not tolerate such acts of violence that endanger innocent lives,” he asserted.
In a related anti-terror operation in Sopore North Kashmir, J&K police forces engaged in combat with terrorists, resulting in the elimination of two terrorists along with the recovery of arms and ammunition.
