Following the revocation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, residents have been anticipating assembly elections in Kashmir, marking the awaited transition to a new government. Recent reports indicate that the Amarnath Yatra will conclude on August 19, potentially paving the way for these elections. Sources reveal that Union Home Minister Amit Shah has directed BJP leaders to ready themselves for the upcoming electoral process.
On Thursday night, Amit Shah and JP Nadda, BJP’s national president and Central Health Minister, convened a meeting with numerous BJP leaders from Jammu and Kashmir to discuss the forthcoming assembly elections. During the meeting, they conveyed that BJP plans to contest on all 90 seats across the state.

In August 2019, prior to the revocation of the state’s special status, the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly was dissolved in November 2018, leading to the bifurcation of the state into two Union Territories.
The BJP leadership has conveyed to state leaders that the party will not forge any pre-election alliances with other parties in the state. However, there may be electoral arrangements with like-minded parties and adjustments in seat distribution. Moreover, the BJP will not nominate any Chief Ministerial candidate ahead of the Assembly elections.

In the coming days, significant Central Ministers and national BJP leaders are expected to visit the state. The party will also initiate a public outreach program among the people. According to sources, there are no planned changes in the current leadership and organizational structure of the BJP in the state, with Ravinder Raina presently serving as State President.
A late-night meeting, lasting nearly two hours, was attended by Ravinder Raina, BJP MP Jitendra Singh from Jammu and Kashmir, Jugal Kishore Sharma, and several other senior leaders. Sources also indicated that the possibility of Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, and Haryana remains open.
