In a remarkable testament to creativity and resilience, Jammu and Kashmir has emerged as a vibrant filmmaking hub, with over 350 films and web series shot across its breathtaking landscapes in the past five years. This cinematic boom is largely credited to the region’s newfound peace and the introduction of a progressive film policy in 2021, which has made Jammu and Kashmir an attractive destination for filmmakers from India and beyond.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed pride in this resurgence, stating, “Our efforts in peace and development have made Jammu and Kashmir a sought-after location for Hindi, regional, and foreign film productions.” He emphasized the vital role of cinema as a medium for education and social change, urging local filmmakers to balance entertainment with social responsibility.
The region has witnessed a flurry of Bollywood activity since 2019, with notable productions such as “Article 370,” “Vedaa,” and Shah Rukh Khan’s “Dunki” being filmed against the backdrop of Kashmir’s stunning scenery. The government has actively supported this trend by approving numerous filming projects, further solidifying the valley’s status as a cinematic paradise.
Kashmir’s enchanting locales, including Gulmarg, Sonmarg, Pulwama, Srinagar, Pahalgam and other places have become popular spots for directors seeking to capture the essence of romance and beauty on screen. The valley’s picturesque landscapes provide the perfect setting for unforgettable cinematic moments, making it a favored choice for filmmakers looking to create visually stunning narratives.
With its rich cultural heritage and breathtaking scenery, the Valley is poised to not only entertain but also inspire meaningful storytelling that resonates with audiences worldwide.
