A vacation in Kashmir in the middle of an election season has left a Jaipur couple scarred by injuries sustained in a militant attack, but they are on the road to recovery with the help of army officials and the Rajasthan government.
Sunny Khan and Farha Khan left for the valley on May 13 with a group of 50 vacationers from Jaipur. The couple, who work in real estate, were traveling with their two young children – daughter Humaira and son Haider.
The tour group spent their fifth day frolicking in the snow in Anantnag on May 18 and planned to end it with dinner at a resort in Pahalgam. They came under fire from the attackers from a distance of approximately 15-20 meters immediately after leaving the van.
Sunny Khan and Mrs. Farha were both hit by bullets, one of which entered her nose and touched her eyes and the other pierced her shoulder.

“Haider was the last to come out of the van. Suddenly some members shouted. They saw two people with guns. A bullet grazed the bridge of Sunny’s nose. Farha grabbed Haider and ran to safety but was shot in the shoulder. “Arif Pathan, elder brother of Mr. Sunny Khan.
Farha was rushed to the army’s 92 Base Hospital in Srinagar and had a shoulder transplant fitted. Army doctors found that her husband’s right eye was completely damaged and suggested that he be taken to Sankara Nethralaya in Chennai.
The Rajasthan government swung into action and Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma approved an allowance of ₹1,000 for the couple from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund. Sharma spoke to Mr. Sunny Khan on the phone, inquired about his well-being, and assured him that he would get all possible help until he fully recovered.
“The Prime Minister strongly condemned the terrorist attack and added that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government, the courage of terrorists has been completely defeated and the attacks in Shopian and Pahalgam are the result. of their. activities. panic,” the Rajasthan government said in a statement.
Sunny Khan visited Sankara Nethralaya in Chennai on Thursday, where doctors examined him and said they were trying to restore vision in his left eye.
Mrs. Farha returned to Jaipur to continue her treatment.
