Jagadish Shettar meets Rahul Gandhi first time after joining Congress
New Delhi: Former Chief Minister and newely-added to Congress Jagadish Shetter Sunday met senior party leader Rahul Gandhi for the first since he joined the grand-old party.
"First meeting with Rahul Gandhi and we discussed so many issues..." said Shettar while talking to media person later in the day.
"I came to join Congress because everyone knows the ill-treatment given by BJP. So, I have shifted to another national party. Rahul Gandhi is the leader of that party. So, I discussed so many things," he added.
Congress has fielded former Karnataka Legislative Assembly speaker Shettar from the Hubbali-Dharwad Central seat for the upcoming Karnataka Assembly Polls 2023. The decision was taken after Jagadish Shettar joined Congress after being denied the ticket from the same seat by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Jagadish Shettar is a former BJP leader who were in the saffron party for several decades. He quit BJP following conflicts with the top leadership who adviced him to take his name off the list to contest Vidhan Sabha elections from Hubbali seat.
This had upset Shettar who ended up giving an ultimatum to the party that they should allot him the ticket or he will break up the decades-long allegience with it, which ultimately happened.
