New Delhi: Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal Monday asked why would former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey would tell a lie when there is no reason, while taking a dig at Union Minister Rajeev Chandrashekhar.
“First of all, I would like to know, why would Jack Dorsey make such a statement? Rajeev Chandrasekhar says that this is a lie. Why would he tell a lie?,” said Sibal.
“There is no reason for Jack Dorsey to tell a lie that they threatened Twitter when the protests were going on, that they would shut their offices and raid the then Twitter employees… There is every reason for others to tell a lie because they cannot accept this…,” he added.
Talking to media person, the RS MP pointed out that the central government had alleged that there were times when Twitter violted the rules and did not respect the soverignity of Inidia.
He said why did not the government took action against Twitter then? He said, “what was the ‘violation of soverignity of India’ we want to know,” said Kapil Sibal.

Centre Dismisses Claims
Earlier in the day, the union minister dismissed Jack Dorsey’s claims that the Inidan government had forced the micro-blogging platform to restrict coverage during farmers protest 2020-2021 and called it a “outright lie.”
Former IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said that there were times when Twitter did not comply by the Indian laws. “It is clear that all social media platforms are respected in India but they have to abide by the law of the land,” he added.

Jack Dorsey Said…
He said, “India for example, India is one of the countries which had many requests around farmers protests, around particular journalists which were critical of the government, and it manifested in ways such as ‘we will shut Twitter down in India’… ‘we would raid the homes of your employees’, which they did; ‘we will shut down your offices if you don’t follow suit’. And this is India, a democratic country.”
