Amid the rising tensions between India and Pakistan, renowned Defence and Foreign Relation expert, Colonel (Retd.) Sanjeet Sirohi told News24 that the full-fledged war between the two countries has not been declared yet. He remarked, “it’s not a full-fledged war yet, we can’t call it that.”
Addressing a question related to the possibility of a full-fledged war between the two countries, he said, “as of now, there is a less possibility of this conflict turning into a full-fledged war. India has only adopted retaliatory measure when provoked by the Pakistan, as yet.”
Sirohi further said, “there is a procedure to declare a war. Before declaring it a full-fledged war, the Defence Minister will brief the Prime Minister, and subsequently the Prime Minister will brief the President, the commander in-chief of the armed forces. Thereafter, the war will be declared, most likely by the Prime Minister himself. As of now, there has been no declaration of the war.” Sirohi also denied the possibility of any nuclear conflict between India and Pakistan.
Furthermore, Sirohi talked on the consequences if the regional war erupts. He said, “If any regional war breaks out, China and Bangladesh may pose a threat to India. They cannot be trusted. Moreover, Turkey may also pose a threat to India by supplying ammunitions to Pakistan. However, Turkey is not a direct threat for India as it does not share the border with us.”
What Else Do We Know?
