PIB Fact Check, a nodal agency of the government, on Wednesday busted news reports related to the President’s Estate that was widely circulated. The news reports claimed that Rashtrapati Bhavan was hosting a wedding ceremony on February 12, 2025 for the first time. Reports called it a historic moment and covered it extensively.
PIB Debunks Claim
The news piece stated that CRPF Assistant Commandant Poonam Gupta will marry fellow officer Avnish Kumar at the Mother Teresa Crown Complex within the presidential residence. The wedding was to witness only close family members in attendance under strict security measures. It further claimed that the event has been personally approved by President Droupadi Murmu.
However, PIB Fact Check has debunked this claim and called it fake. It wrote on X, “It is being claimed in news reports that for the first time in history, Rashtrapati Bhavan will be hosting a wedding.” The post further mentioned that the President’s Estate has been the venue of several weddings since its inception. So, this makes it clear that the President’s Estate has been hosting weddings and the wedding of CRPF Assistant Commandant Poonam Gupta is just another addition to the list.

Who Is Poonam Gupta?
Poonam Gupta is from Shivpuri, a city in Madhya Pradesh and she’s currently serving as a Personal Security Officer (PSO) at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Poonam’s fiancé, Avnish Kumar, is posted in Jammu and Kashmir. She also led the first-ever all-women contingent at the 74th Republic Day parade. The ceremony is expected to be an intimate affair and only close family and friends will be invited and all of them will undergo security screening due to the venue’s significance.
