Monday’s explosion has raised serious questions about safety in Delhi’s busy markets and commercial areas. The blast, which occurred in a car parked near the Red Fort for over three hours, has highlighted the urgent need for stricter security checks at parking lots. While Sarojini Nagar Market was packed with shoppers moving through crowded lanes, security was visibly weak, with very little frisking at entry points and few police officers around. Only the main entrances of Babu Market and Mini Market had police presence, and though watchtowers were installed across the area, none were manned.
Security tightened in Lajpat Nagar
In contrast, Lajpat Nagar had tighter security and more alert policing. At Karol Bagh, traders stayed inside their shops after police advised caution. Janpath saw thinner crowds, and there was no visible police monitoring at the entry or exit points. Meanwhile, Paharganj, usually bustling with hawkers, looked unusually quiet with empty inner lanes near Khanna Cinema.
According to Hindustan Times, residents in Lajpat Nagar described a similar situation. “People are afraid something like this might happen again, so the crowd is smaller today. The police have also restricted parking in several areas, making it difficult for visitors to come,” said Anshul Dawar, 42, who runs a home appliances store in the locality.
In contrast, Lajpat Nagar Market, which had witnessed a blast back in 1996, appeared far more organised this time. Temporary barricades were set up along Veer Savarkar Marg and Firoze Gandhi Marg to stop roadside parking. The usually crowded Pushpa Market looked more orderly, with police officers patrolling the area and checking visitors at the entry points. Additional security personnel were stationed throughout the market. However, no checks were being carried out at the surface parking area, which has remained barricaded by police since Tuesday.
Lal Qila Metro station to be remain closed
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) announced that the Lal Qila Metro Station will remain closed today following the tragic car blast in Delhi on November 10. The explosion claimed 13 lives and injured several others. Additionally, Delhi Police has ordered the closure of the historic Red Fort for visitors until November 13.
Chandni chowk market closed
A day after the devastating blast that stunned the nation, the usually crowded streets of Chandni Chowk wore a deserted look. Markets that typically stay busy late into the night during the wedding season were eerily empty.
