International Women’s Day: In an attempt to highlight the importance of women, the Uttar Pradesh government allowed free entry to various monuments including the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort for tourists on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
Tourists who came to visit the Taj Mahal said, “We didn’t know that today entry is free for visiting the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort. We are glad about this decision of the government. The government has done a good job, we are very happy”. March 8 has been observed as International Women’s Day every year since 1975, to celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women around the world.
The day is commemorated to raise awareness about the need of combating gender prejudices and to draw attention to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence and abuse against women. It has evolved into a platform for raising awareness and catalysing social change.
Because the emphasis is on women’s rights movements, organisations all around the world are banding together to arrange events that emphasise the role of women.
With the theme “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality,” the United Nations observes International Women’s Day to highlight and celebrate the women and girls who are promoting the promotion of transformational technology and digital education.
