In a significant escalation of anti-terror operations across the Kashmir Valley, Jammu and Kashmir Police, in collaboration with the army and paramilitary forces, have successfully eliminated eight terrorists, including five foreigners, Pakistani terrorists, over the past week. A fresh encounter erupted today in the Zabarwan forest area behind Brain Ishbar in Srinagar.

The encounter began early this morning as security forces engaged with terrorists in the Zabarwan forests of Ishbar Nishat. Intermittent firing has been reported as forces continue their operations in the area. A senior police officer confirmed that the exchange of gunfire is ongoing following a well-coordinated cordon and search operation initiated based on specific intelligence.

This marks the second major anti-terror operation in Srinagar this week. Earlier, a longest surviving Pakistani terrorist identified as Usman, linked to the Lashkar-e-Taiba group, was killed during an encounter in the Khanyar area. Usman was reportedly responsible for multiple attacks, including one targeting Police Inspector Masroor.

Just hours before today’s encounter, security forces neutralized another foreign terrorist in an ambush operation in the Rampora forest area of Sopore, Baramulla district. According to police officials, they had received credible information about the terrorist’s movements, leading to a preemptive cordon. When challenged, the terrorist opened fire, prompting a swift retaliatory response that resulted in his death. This terrorist had previously escaped from a cordon in Bandipora earlier this month.

In a separate operation on Friday, two hardcore terrorists, including a foreign terrorist, were killed in the Sagipora area of Sopore, both affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba. The recent surge in operations has also seen the arrest of nine individuals connected to terrorism, including three terrorists involved in a grenade attack on civilians at Lal Chowk’s Sunday Market.

The intensified operations are attributed to the strategic direction of newly appointed Jammu and Kashmir Police Chief Nalin Prabhat, who is personally supervising these efforts to ensure public safety and security. Under his leadership, security forces are not only targeting terrorists but also dismantling their networks and providing reassurance to the local populace.
