INS Brahmaputra Heavily Damaged By Fire, Lying On Side; Sailor Missing

A fire erupted on the INS Brahmaputra, an Indian Navy warship, during maintenance at the Mumbai naval dockyard, officials reported on Monday. The navy stated that a junior sailor is missing, and rescue teams are searching for him.

Officials stated that the multi-role frigate was undergoing refit at the Naval Dockyard when the fire broke out.

The ship’s crew, with the help of firefighters from the Naval Dockyard and other ships in the harbor, managed to bring the fire under control. Follow-up actions, including sanitization checks to assess any residual fire risk, were promptly conducted.

The navy reported that the ship’s crew, assisted by firefighters from the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai and other ships in the harbor, managed to bring the fire under control by Monday morning. They also carried out follow-up actions, including sanitization checks to assess any residual fire risk.

In the afternoon, however, the ship began to list severely to the port side. Despite all efforts, the ship could not be brought back to an upright position, sources reported.

Sources added that the INS Brahmaputra continued to list further alongside its berth and is currently resting on one side. No casualties have been reported in the incident. The Indian Navy has initiated an inquiry to investigate the accident.
