Infosys Co-Founder Narayana Murthy: ‘Freebies Won’t Help, But Job Creation Can Eliminate Poverty’

While speaking at an event in Mumbai, Murthy said the problem of poverty would “ vanish” like a dew on a sunny morning.

While speaking at an event in Mumbai, Murthy said the problem of poverty would “ vanish” like a dew on a sunny morning. 

He asked the people at the event to generate jobs, saying that it would take the country out of the problem of poverty instead of giving freebies. He said no nation has succeeded by doing that.  The Infosys co-founder added that he does not know much about politics.

Murthy drew headlines when he favored 70-hour work in a week, which created a storm on social media. 

Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi had expressed his disagreement with the tech tycoon’s statement supporting grinding, relentless work hours — an ‘overwork culture.’

Gaurav Gogoi had countered Narayana Murthy’s beliefs of work-life balance as an indulgent myth and highlighted the perspective where the traditional division of labour between men and women in the household. 

Gogoi had suggested that the concept of a “work-life balance” is not as straightforward or achievable for everyone, especially women are being challenged, in context to work-life balance. He had shared his disagreement with Narayan Murthy’s view on work-life balance, who is known for his strong stance on the importance of work-life balance.
