As Indigo continues to face nationwide delays and cancellations, a brief unexpected incident on one of its flights has drawn attention online. Recently, a special flyer boarded the plane, possibly en route to Vadodara from Bengaluru, as the flight was headed that way. This happened just before takeoff, creating confusion among the passengers and crew. In the footage that has been circulating online, the pigeon can be seen flying around in a frenzy, trying to find a way out of the aircraft.

Amid the furore, crew members and a few passengers attempted to catch the “frequent flyer,” while one of the passengers caught the whole act on video. Upon sharing the video online, it quickly went viral. The incident was captured by a digital creator who later posted it on Instagram along with the caption: “A surprise guest on the flight… A moment of joy and humour. Enjoyed.”

While Indigo flight cancellations have left flyers in jeopardy, the guest flyer seems to have had no issues choosing Indigo over other airlines.

About Indigo cancellations

IndiGo continues to face severe nationwide disruptions. Large-scale flight cancellations and delays have been affecting thousands of passengers across all major airports. The crisis began after the recent introduction of stricter pilot duty regulations on November 1. The new restrictions have established tighter night landing limits and longer rest requirements to reduce crew fatigue.

IndiGo admitted that due to lapses in planning and misjudgment in adjusting to these rules, there has been a significant shortage of available pilots. As a result, on December 5 alone, the airline cancelled more than 1,000 flights across India.

On December 7, IndiGo cancelled around 650 flights, operating only about 1,650 of its scheduled 2,300 services. Airports in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Chennai have been among the worst affected, leaving a large number of passengers stranded.

Amid the issues caused by the planning lapse, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) issued a show-cause notice to Indigo’s senior management, seeking an explanation for the airline’s inadequate operational planning. To reduce the burden on passengers, the government has capped airfares on key domestic routes. Indian Railways has also launched special trains and added coaches to several trains to ease the rush.
