SpiceJet has announced that it will operate 100 additional flights over the next few days to support passengers affected by the large-scale delays and cancellations across IndiGo’s network. The move comes as frustration grows nationwide, with travellers facing long waiting hours, last-minute cancellations, and overcrowded airports.
SpiceJet Says Situation ‘Extremely Unfortunate’
Speaking to ANI, SpiceJet Chairman and Managing Director Ajay Singh said the airline is stepping in to provide whatever support it can during what he described as a “highly unfortunate” situation.
“What happened is extremely unfortunate, and it has caused a huge amount of inconvenience to passengers,” Singh said. He added that both the government and IndiGo are working hard to stabilise operations.
“We are attempting to help by running 100 additional flights over the next few days. It is important to find out what happened and why. We welcome the government’s decision to constitute a committee,” he said.
Singh also stressed the need to understand the root cause of the disruptions to ensure such a situation does not repeat in the future.
DGCA Confirms IndiGo’s Request For Temporary FDTL Relief
Earlier today, the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) confirmed that IndiGo has sought temporary operational exemptions from certain Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) rules for its A320 fleet. These exemptions have been requested until February 10, 2026, and the airline has assured regulators that operational stability will be fully restored by then.
Over 500 Flights Hit; Delhi Operations Worst Affected
The disruptions have escalated sharply. IndiGo has been cancelling 170–200 flights daily, far above normal levels. By Friday, the situation worsened, with over 500 IndiGo flights delayed or cancelled across the country, causing widespread inconvenience to passengers.
Delhi Airport issued a specific advisory, stating that all IndiGo departures from Delhi on Friday have been cancelled until midnight, although operations of other airlines continue as scheduled.
Passengers Hope For Stability Soon
With airlines, regulators, and the government coordinating to manage the crisis, passengers are hoping for quick relief. For now, SpiceJet’s additional flights may offer some breathing room as the aviation sector works to stabilise operations.
