In a shocking move, Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif has announced comprehensive support and a compensation of Rs 1 crore per deceased for the legal heirs of those killed as part of India’s Operation Sindoor. The Pakistan government’s decision will result in a ₹14 crore payout to UN-designated and India’s most wanted terrorist, Masood Azhar, who reportedly lost 14 family members during the Sindoor strike. Masood Azhar, a UN-designated terrorist, is the chief of the international terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).
Rs 1 Crore Per Person
Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced full support and a compensation of ₹1 crore for the families of those killed in the Indian airstrikes, according to a press release from the Prime Minister’s Office. The strikes, carried out under Operation Sindoor, targeted terror camps in Bahawalpur — Pakistan’s 12th-largest city and the operational hub of the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terror group. Located approximately 400 km from Lahore, Bahawalpur houses the JeM headquarters at Jamia Masjid Subhan Allah, also known as the Usman-o-Ali campus.
14 Family Members Reportedly Killed
A statement from Azhar confirmed that among the deceased were his elder sister and her husband, a nephew and his wife, a niece, and five children from his extended family. Since Azhar may be the only surviving legal heir, he could receive ₹1 crore for each of the 14 family members who died, totalling ₹14 crore.
Additionally, Prime Minister Sharif’s relief announcement includes a plan to rebuild houses destroyed in the Indian airstrikes, which has raised concerns. Indian defence officials have stated multiple times that the May 7 strikes were precise and targeted only terror camps, with no impact on civilian areas. As Pakistan promises to rebuild, India is expected to closely monitor whether these rebuilt areas are used again for terrorism-related activities.
Operation Sindoor
Operation Sindoor was a military operation conducted by the Indian Armed Forces on May 7, 2025, targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). It was a retaliatory response to the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, 2025, which killed 26 civilians, including 25 Indians and one Nepali, in Jammu and Kashmir. The attack was attributed to The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), with India alleging Pakistan’s complicity.
