Popular YouTube show India’s Got Latent has episodes with millions of views. One of the episodes, featuring popular YouTubers Ranveer Allahbadia, Samay Raina, Ashish Chanchlani, and social media influencer Apoorva Makhija, has sparked massive backlash due to certain comments made during the show.
As a result, an FIR has been filed against YouTubers Allahbadia, Samay Raina, Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, Apoorva Makhija, and others.
Reacting to this, Founder and CEO of People Group, Anupam Mittal, posted a lengthy statement on his LinkedIn handle. He wrote, ‘Summon YouTube to the High Court too, not just Ranveer and Apoorva.’
He further stated, ‘See, what happened was messy, crass, and undeniably wrong. The statements & language used are totally unacceptable in any civilized society. But before we get all sanskari & load up our guns, let’s understand what the real issue is.’
Discussing India’s Got Latent, he mentioned, ‘India’s Got Latent wasn’t some Satyamev Jayate ka lost episode > it was always about insults, vulgarity, irreverence & shock. Like it or hate it, that was the show.’
He also addressed digital platforms like Instagram and YouTube, stating, ‘YouTube, Instagram, digital media—these platforms dangle virality like prasad, watch creators chase, and then step back when the fire starts.’
Through his post, he raised a crucial question: ‘Ranveer and Apoorva messed up, real bad, and apologized. Shouldn’t we move our attention to the bigger issue?’
Through his post, he called Ranveer, Apoorva, Samay, and others victims who are caught in an endless cycle of provocation for their relevance and survival.
He wrote, ‘The real culprits are Big Tech, who take cover under digital intermediary laws that allow them to flout all responsibility and accountability. Imagine a newspaper or a TV channel publishing the type of content that these platforms carry with total impunity.’
