Artificial Intelligence (AI) is creating waves across the globe, and India is no exception. Uttar Pradesh (UP) is set to take a technological leap with the development of the country’s first AI city in its capital, Lucknow. The city is expected to bring transformative changes in sectors ranging from agriculture and healthcare to education and governance.
A Vision for Digital Uttar Pradesh
The state government has allocated ₹10,732 crore to build technical infrastructure, develop AI talent, and promote research and innovation. This investment will focus on AI, data analytics, and cybersecurity training for youth. Under the Vision 2047 plan, Lucknow will serve as a fully AI-enabled city, not just a smart city. It will also act as a national AI governance and command center, setting a model for other states.
Advanced Infrastructure and Innovation Hubs
Lucknow’s AI city will feature a state-supported AI Innovation Hub, supercomputing infrastructure with 10,000+ GPUs, and indigenous multilingual AI models for Indian languages. The city will also provide a research-friendly environment for global companies, in line with the IndiaAI Mission. This AI-driven infrastructure aims to improve efficiency in governance, attract investments, and foster technological innovation.
Healthcare and Education Revolution
AI is transforming UP’s healthcare system. Predictive analytics will allow doctors to forecast diseases and improve treatment accuracy. Digital education initiatives are bridging rural classrooms with global education standards. The Chief Minister emphasizes technology as a bridge between local classrooms and advanced learning opportunities, aiming to make education more accessible and effective.
AI in Agriculture and Welfare Programs
Over 10 lakh farmers are already connected to AI tools. Using satellite imagery, soil testing, weather forecasting, and digital tracking, agriculture is becoming more scientific and productive. AI is also streamlining welfare programs, enabling real-time beneficiary identification, faster DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer), fraud detection, and timely delivery of services to citizens.
Enhancing Safety and Governance
UP’s municipal corporations are deploying AI-based security systems, including facial recognition networks, vehicle tracking, predictive monitoring, smart police control rooms, SOS systems, and jail security systems like ‘Jarvis’. AI is helping the government manage land disputes, illegal encroachments, and unauthorized mining effectively. Additionally, the DHVANI platform, developed by NIC, acts as UP’s AI engine, connecting departments and automating complaint resolution, documentation, and service delivery.
A Model for India
With Lucknow emerging as India’s first fully AI-powered city, Uttar Pradesh is setting a benchmark for technological governance, smart infrastructure, and sustainable development. From agriculture and healthcare to education and public safety, AI is poised to redefine the future of the state and the nation.
