A 30-year-old Indian techie from Telangana was shot by the police in California, United States after he allegedly stabbed his roommate with a knife earlier this month. His family has alleged racial discrimination and demanded a thorough investigation into the circumstances leading to his death. The deceased techie has been identified as Mohammed Nizamuddin, from Mahabubnagar in Telangana. He had gone for higher studies to the US in 2016. He had pursued a Masters in Computer Science at a Florida college and was working at a tech firm in Santa Clara.
Nizamuddin was shot after he was found inside his residence in Santa Clara with a knife on September 3. He was found pinning down his roommate, who had sustained several injuries. His family, who resides in Mahabubnagar is seeking assistance from the Indian and Telangana state governments to bring back the body of their son. According to his family, Nizamuddin was a quiet and religious person, who had publicly raised complaints of racial harassment and termination from job.
His family added that in one of the LinkedIn posts, Nizamuddin had mentioned that he has been a victim of racial hatred, racial discrimination, racial harassment, torture, wage-fraud, wrongful termination and obstruction of Justice.
Family seeks MEA’s help
Deceased techie’s father, Mohammad Amsuddhin has appealed to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to bring back his son’s body to India at the earliest. “I was informed today that my son was shot dead in California, America. My son went to study in America in 2016 at Florida College…He moved to California on a promotion, where he was shot dead. I appeal to the MEA Dr S Jaishankar, to bring my son’s body back to India as soon as possible,” Amsuddhin told ANI.
