A video showing a Maharashtrian woman cooking Maggi inside a moving train using an electric kettle has taken social media by storm. The clip, recorded by a fellow passenger, shows the woman casually preparing noodles by plugging a kettle into the train’s power socket, something that may appear harmless, but is actually a major safety violation on Indian trains.
As the video spread across platforms, many users expressed shock and concern. Several pointed out that the electric sockets in train coaches are specifically designed for low-power mobile charging, not for heating appliances. High-wattage devices like electric kettles can overload the system, trigger sparks and even cause short circuits. In a worst-case scenario, such misuse can lead to an onboard fire, putting hundreds of passengers at risk.
Others highlighted that even a minor malfunction can disrupt AC functioning or shut down multiple electronic ports in the coach, creating inconvenience and potential hazards. The incident has once again brought attention to the importance of following safety protocols while travelling.
Central Railway responds
Following the virality of the clip, Central Railway issued a strong response on X. In its official statement, it reminded passengers that using electric kettles or any high-wattage appliances inside trains is strictly prohibited. The Railways described the act as unsafe, illegal and punishable, stressing that such behaviour can endanger not just the user but everyone in the coach.
Action is being initiated against the channel and the person concerned.
