Indian Railways has decided to increase the number of coaches in Vande Bharat trains in view of the increasing number of passengers. The Railway Board has announced the upgrade of Vande Bharat trains running on seven major routes. Also, upgraded Vande Bharat trains will be run on some new routes in the future.
7 Vande Bharat Trains To Be Upgraded:
Mangaluru Central – Thiruvananthapuram Central
Secunderabad – Tirupati
Chennai Egmore – Tirunelveli
Madurai – Bengaluru Cantt
Deoghar – Varanasi
Howrah – Rourkela
Indore – Nagpur
Coach expansion plan:
According to the plan of the Railways:
Coaches of four trains will be increased from 8 to 16.
Three trains will be upgraded from 16 to 20 coaches.
Dilip Kumar, Director of Information and Publicity, Railway Board, said that this decision has been taken on the basis of occupancy and feasibility. This plan has been made keeping in mind the data of financial year 2025-26 (till 31 July 2025).
Routes with 16 to 20 coaches:
Mangaluru Central – Thiruvananthapuram Central
Secunderabad – Tirupati
Chennai Egmore – Tirunelveli
Routes with 8 to 16 coaches:
Madurai – Bengaluru Cantt
Deoghar – Varanasi
Howrah – Rourkela
Indore – Nagpur
Railway officials have also indicated that more 20-coach Vande Bharat trains will be introduced in the near future. Additionally, a 16-coach rake has been kept in reserve for upgradation.
Dilip Kumar further said that the coaches that will be vacant after the upgrade will be used in operating new Vande Bharat services.
