Indian-origin Ravi Chaudhary: The US Senate on Wednesday (Local Time), approved Indian-origin Ravi Chaudhary as the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Energy, Installations, and the Environment.
With a huge margin of vote of 65-29, Chaudhary was elected for the post and joined one of the top civilian leadership teams at the Pentagon. As Assistant Secretary of the Air Force, Chaudhary will be the first Indian-American to hold the position.
Following Chaudhary’s victory, US Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) issued the following statement: “Dr. Ravi Chaudhary, an immigrant’s son who was raised in Minnesota, had aspirations of becoming an Air Force pilot and serving his country. Dr. Chaudhary has devoted his professional life to serving the public, from his more than two decades of service as an active duty Air Force officer through his time at the Federal Aviation Administration.”

Between 1993 and 2015, Chaudhary was an active duty Air Force pilot, flying several combat missions in Afghanistan and Iraq, the statement claims.

After leaving the military, Chaudhary worked for the Federal Aviation Administration for five years as a senior official in the Regions and Center Operations and Office of Commercial Space. According to the statement, President Obama also nominated him to the President’s Advisory Committee on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.
The Air Force’s operational preparedness, including installations and basing plan, as well as sustainability and quality of military housing are the responsibilities of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Energy, Installations, and the Environment.
