Gymnast Dipa Karmakar: The International Testing Agency (ITA) has suspended Indian gymnast Dipa Karmakar for 21 months for consuming banned substances.
She was tested positive for higenamine (S3. Beta-2 Agonists as per the World Anti-Doping Agency prohibited list), according to the ITA
Higenamine was added to the World Anti-Doping Agency’s list of banned substances in 2017. Deepa’s samples were collected on 11 October 2021. Now the ban imposed by ITA for failing in dope test will continue till July 10, 2023.

According to the International Testing Agency (ITA), the dope test was done on 11 October 2021 by the Federation of International Gymnasts (FIG). His test sample has been found positive. After giving samples for dope test, Deepa has not been a part of any competition.

The ban imposed by the ITA means that the 29-year-old Dipa will miss all the World Cup series tournaments and at least three of the six World Challenge Cup series. Once the ban is over, she will be eligible for the Olympic qualifier event World Championships 2023, starting September 23 in Antwerp.
What is Banned Hijenamine
According to the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), higenamine is a mixed adrenergic receptor antagonist. It can act as an anti asthma. It does not cause breathlessness and due to cardiotonic increases cardiac output and strengthens the heart rate.
Deepa is the first Indian gymnast to participate in the Olympics
Please tell that Dipa Karmakar is the first Indian gymnast to participate in the Olympics. Tripura’s Deepa created history by finishing fourth in the women’s vault final at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Karmakar had earlier won a bronze at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
She became the first Indian female gymnast to do so in the history of the Games. Dipa had won a bronze at the Asian Gymnastics Championships and finished fifth at the 2015 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships.
