Terrorists Killed In Baramulla Were Pakistani And Linked To Lashkar-e-Taiba, Confirms Army

On Thursday, the Indian Army reported that the two terrorists killed in a encounter with security forces in Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir, were of Pakistani origin.

In Srinagar on June 20, the Army reported that security forces killed two terrorists during an encounter in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir. The terrorists, identified as Pakistani nationals linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), were involved in the incident.

Brigadier Deepak Dev, Commander of 5 Sector Rashtriya Rifles, identified the deceased terrorists as Usman and Umar, both of Pakistani origin and associated with LeT, during a press briefing in Rafiabad.

During the encounter that took place on Wednesday in Baramulla district of northern Kashmir, security forces neutralized two terrorists and two security personnel sustained injuries.

Security forces initiated a cordon-and-search operation in the Watergam area of Baramulla in the morning based on intelligence regarding terrorist presence. The operation escalated into an encounter when the terrorists fired at the security personnel.

Brigadier stated that Usman has been operational in the Kashmir Valley since 2020.

The army officer reported recovering substantial quantities of weapons and ammunition following the operation.

He noted that in recent weeks, there has been consistent intelligence regarding the movement of a terrorist group in the Sopore-Rafiyabad area of Baramulla District.

Intelligence From Jammu and Kashmir Police

Brigadier Dev mentioned that on Wednesday, specific intelligence provided by Jammu and Kashmir Police indicated the presence of two terrorists in a house in Hadipura village, Rafiabad area. In response, the Indian Army, JKP, and CRPF initiated a joint operation, promptly cordoning off the area.

Following standard protocol, security forces safely evacuated civilians from nearby houses and secured the area. They tightly cordoned off the specific house and, during the search operation, the terrorists opened fire on the security forces. In the ensuing exchange of fire, he confirmed that the security forces neutralized two terrorists.

The army officer highlighted that the elimination of these terrorists represents another significant achievement for the security forces.

“In recent months, we have sustained a rigorous operational tempo, achieving notable successes. This success is also credited to the unwavering cooperation of the Kashmiri populace. The security forces remain committed to ongoing efforts aimed at preserving peace and stability in Kashmir,” he affirmed.
