India witnesses steep rise on Covid-19 cases, logs 18,313 fresh cases

New Delhi: India recorded 18,313 new cases of the novel coronavirus, along with 57 deaths due to the infection in the past 24 hours. The registered Covid cases are 23.5 per cent higher than yesterday (Tuesday).

The total active cases of Covid-19 in India have declined to 1,45,026, the health ministry data showed today. Yesterday, the registered active cases were 1,47,512.

India’s recovery rate currently stands at 98.47 per cent. A total of 20,742 patients recovered in the last 24 hours, which brings the total recoveries to 4,32,67,571 across the country.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 87,31,85,917 samples have been tested up to July 25 for COVID-19. Of these 4,26,102 samples were tested on Monday.

According to the ministry, 202.79 crore vaccine doses have so far been administered under the nationwide covid vaccination drive.

India has “created history again”, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday as the country achieved a big milestone of administering two billion vaccine doses in just 18 months.

Congratulating all Indians on crossing the “special figure”, PM Modi said that he is “proud of those who contributed to making India’s vaccination drive unparalleled in scale and speed”. He added that it has “strengthened the global fight against COVID-19”.

“India creates history again! Congrats to all Indians on crossing the special figure of 200 crore vaccine doses. Proud of those who contributed to making India’s vaccination drive unparalleled in scale and speed. This has strengthened the global fight against COVID-19,” wrote PM Modi on Twitter.
