New Delhi: The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) will sell 5,500 MHz of 5G spectrum valued more than Rs 35,000 crore. This comes after the recent airwave auction, which was completed, saw the sale of airwaves valued at Rs 1.5 lakh crore.

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has established an internal group to develop a strategy for designating 37. 0-42. 5 GHz as international mobile telecommunications (IMT) bands, allowing telecom businesses to utilise the spectrum. The IMT, also referred to as the millimetre wave band, is helpful for providing 5G fixed wireless access services.

The committee of secretaries will handle the matter and declare the band as IMT once the DoT submits its proposal for the 37.0-42.5″ GHz spectrum, according to the report.

After seven days and 38 rounds, the largest airwave auction in Indian history came to an end on August 2. Spectrum worth Rs. 1,50,173 crore was sold.

The Center had auctioned off 72,098 MHz of spectrum, of which 51,236 MHz (71% of the total) had been purchased. Among the bids for 5G airwaves were Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea, and Gautam Adani’s Adani Data Networks, with Jio winning the contract for the most 5G spectrum.

Reliance Jio Infocomm’s bid of Rs 88,078 crore, Bharti Airtel Ltd’s bid of Rs 43,048 crore, Vodafone Idea Ltd’s bid of Rs 18,799 crore, and Adani Data Networks’ bid of Rs 212 Cr make up the total bid sum of Rs 1,50,173 crore. The members would pay a total of Rs 13,365 crore yearly. The interest rate used to calculate annual instalments is 7.2 percent.
