President of India, Droupadi Murmu, has begun a four-day visit to Kerala from Wednesday. Today, she offered her prayers at Lord Ayyappa at Sannidhanam, Sabarimala. During this visit, an interesting connection comes to light between the Indian President and Sabarimala.
What’s the Curiosity When President Droupadi Murmu Visits Sabarimala?
As the President stands at Sabarimala, two unique entities in the country with their own pincodes are connected. Sabarimala carries the pincode 689713, while the Rashtrapati Bhavan Post Office has 110004. The special feature of both pincodes is that each serves only a single address. While multiple locations can share a PIN code if they are handled by the same post office, these two entities have individual, exclusive codes.
Pincode of Lord Sabarimala Ayappa
The Sabarimala post office was established in 1963 and operates only during the Mandala and Vishu seasons. Letters and money orders addressed to “Swami Ayyappan, Sabarimala PO, 689713” are received here and handed over to the Executive Officer. Devotees visiting the Sannidhanam also send prayer cards in the name of Ayyappan from this post office. A postage stamp featuring the Ayyappa idol and the eighteenth step was issued in 1974, whereas stamps in other post offices typically display the place name and pincode.
What are PIN Codes (Postal Index Number)
A PIN code, or Postal Index Number, is a six-digit number used by India Post to identify specific postal areas in the country. Introduced in 1972, it helps simplify the sorting and delivery of mail. Multiple locations can share a PIN code if they are handled by the same post office.
President Visiting Sabarimala After 52 Years
Droupadi Murmu is the President visiting Sabarimala after 52 years and is only the second President to do so. The first was V.V. Giri, who visited on April 10, 1973, accompanied by his son and then-Congress MP Shankar Giri, Bhaskar Giri, and Mallik Giri. On that occasion, 1,001 Katinas were fired in welcome.
Part of Helipad Collapses as President Droupadi Murmu’s Chopper Lands
A portion of the helipad tarmac at the Pramadam Stadium in Kerala sank after the helicopter carrying President Droupadi Murmu landed on Wednesday during her visit to the Sabarimala temple. According to officials present at the site, the helipad surface partially caved in moments after the chopper touched down. On Thursday, the President is scheduled to unveil a statue of former President K. R. Narayanan at the Raj Bhavan. Later, the President will attend separate programmes at St Thomas College, Pala, and St Teresa’s College, Ernakulam.
