New Delhi: The government of India will observe one day of state mourning on September 11 to commemorate the passing away of Queen Elizabeth of England.

India will join other Commonwealth nations in mourning the death of the longest-serving queen of Britain.

Queen Elizabeth II died on Thursday afternoon putting an end to the longest-ever reign by a British queen. She was 96. Her reign as the queen of England lasted for over 70 years.

Queen Elizabeth will be succeeded by her eldest son Prince Charles.
