There has been a rise in the number of cases of HMPV in China. This is a respiratory disease. The country has not declared it as epidemic.
Seeing this the National Centre for Disease Control has started monitoring the respiratory and influenza cases in India, as per media reports.
As quoted by CNBC, the sources from the health ministry mentioned that, “We will continue to monitor the situation closely, validate the information, and update accordingly.”
According to the data by WHO’s WPRO for December 16 to 22, China has witnessed a rise in respiratory infections. Under this comes seasonal influenza, respiratory syncytial virus, rhinovirus, and HMPV.
As quoted by CNBC TV18, the sources said, “We are in regular contact with global health agencies and will act swiftly should any actionable information emerge.”
According to media reports the Health Ministry of India is closely monitoring the situation to implement the preventive measures and minimize the possible risks.

What Is HMPV?
The Human Metapneumovirus rises during the sprint and winter seasons. It affects the respiratory system. The mode of transfer of this virus is through the droplets when the person infected sneezes. The symptoms of this are cough, runny nose, fever, sore throat, and wheezing.
