India fast-tracks business visas for Chinese professionals; Beijing calls move…

China has welcomed New Delhi's move to streamline procedures to allow Chinese nationals apply under India's business visa category. 

India has moved to fast-track business visa approvals for Chinese professionals, a step welcomed by Beijing. The move aims to improve relations and address prolonged delays that have cost billions in lost economic output, Reuters reported. Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun has called the move ‘positive’.

Beijing’s reaction came after New Delhi streamlined procedures to allow Chinese nationals apply under India’s business visa category. Jiakun was addressing a press briefing when he responded to a question, stating, “We’ve noted this positive move.”

“Serves the common interests of all parties’: China

According to the Chinese official, promoting cross-border travel “serves the common interests of all parties.” Meanwhile, he highlighted China’s willingness to maintain communication and consultation with New Delhi to facilitate people-to-people exchange between the two powers. The decision aims to ease border tensions amid steep US tariff pressure.

‘B’ visa for Chinese professionals valid for…

Chinese business nationals visiting India were earlier issued employment visas with a six-month validity. However, the government has now decided to issue business visas or ‘B’ visas to them for short periods.

Earlier in November, Chinese ambassador to India, Xu Feihong, had said that Beijing was “willing to work with India” to resolve the issues. “The China-India border issue is very complex, and it will indeed take time to resolve it. I believe that as two ancient civilisations have sufficient wisdom and ability to maintain peace and tranquility in the border areas and find a fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable solution,” the Chinese ambassador had said.
