Two weeks after the Pahalgam attack, India carried out strikes on terror camps in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, it informed the United States about the operation, saying nine terror camps were targeted. National Security Advisor Ajit Doval spoke to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio soon after the strikes and assured him that no Pakistani civilians, businesses, or military sites were harmed.
“No Pakistani civilian, economic or military targets have been hit. Only known terror camps were targeted,” the Indian Embassy in Washington DC said in a press release, according to news agency PTI.
The strikes on the terrorist camps were a response to the deadly attack in Pahalgam on April 22, where 26 innocent people were killed. This has increased tensions between India and Pakistan.
India Promised Strong Response After Pahalgam Attack
A few days after the terror attack in Pahalgam, Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave the armed forces “full operational freedom,” according to India Today TV report. Also, Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh promised a strong response to those who harm India.
The Indian embassy said, ‘ it had strong proof, including technical data and statements from survivors, showing that terrorists based in Pakistan were involved in the Pahalgam attack.’
“It was expected that Pakistan would take action against terrorists and the infrastructure that supports them. Instead, during the fortnight that has gone by, Pakistan has indulged in denial and made allegations of false flag operations against India,” it added.
Tensions Rise After Indus Waters Treaty Suspension
Many leaders in Pakistan, including Defence Minister Khawaja Asif and former Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, made anti-India statements after the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty.
“The Indus is ours and will remain ours. Either our water will flow through it, or their blood will,” Bhutto said, causing a huge reaction in India.
Meanwhile, Khawaja Asif repeatedly said that any attack or threat to Pakistan’s security would lead to a strong and historic response from the country.
