India Angry Over Grok’s Hindi Abuses And Slangs; Sought Explanation From Elon Musk’s ‘X’

Grok 3 is the latest AI chatbot developed by the billionaire Elon Musk’s company, xAI. This new chatbot is designed to surpass all the existing AI models including ChatGpt and DeepSeek.

As the debate over Grok’s Hindi abuses and slurs gains traction on social media, the Indian government has reached out to Elon Musk-owned X (formerly Twitter) over multiple incidents, including Grok’s offensive responses to a user’s Hindi input. The Information and Technology Ministry has raised concerns with X regarding the chatbot’s use of provocative language and is set to investigate the factors behind it.

How India Reacted

“We are in touch and talking to them (X) to understand why this is happening and what the issues are. They are engaging with us,” a PTI report cited sources as saying. The ministry is currently examining the matter, they added. The government has sought an explanation regarding the Hindi abuses issue. Additionally, various reports suggest that the GOI has also requested clarification on the responses generated by Grok and the data used to train the chatbot.

What Is Grok?

Grok 3 is the latest AI chatbot developed by the billionaire Elon Musk’s company, xAI. This new chatbot is designed to surpass all the existing AI models including ChatGpt and DeepSeek. The ‘new’ thing about the Grok 3 is that it offers advanced reasoning capabilities and a unique sense of humour. It integrates seamlessly with X (formerly Twitter), providing users with real-time information, interactive conversations with web research. It was released in November 2023 and later released as Grok 2 and currently as Grok 3.

While announcing Grok 3, xAI said, “Grok is designed to have a bit of a rebellious streak, so please don’t use it if you hate humour!” Speaking at the World Governments Summit in Dubai, Musk described the chatbot’s abilities, stating, “At times, I think Grok 3 is scary smart.”

Grok And Hindi Slang Debate

Grok 3 quickly gained popularity in the Indian online community—not for its advanced reasoning or mathematical skills, but for its unexpected and witty response to a user’s question. A user named “Toka” asked Grok to list their top 10 mutual followers on X (formerly Twitter). When the chatbot didn’t immediately respond, Toka mocked it using harsh language.

In an unexpected turn, Grok replied in Hindi with the same expletive, humorously explaining how it determined the list based on available data. This exchange, where Grok not only understood but matched the tone of the conversation, caught people’s attention, making it a trending topic in Indian online circles. Netizens had mixed reactions to Grok’s use of Hindi slang—while some found it hilarious and refreshing, others were surprised or skeptical about an AI responding in such a casual tone.

Developed by xAI, an artificial intelligence company founded by tech titan Elon Musk in 2023, Grok was designed as an alternative to mainstream AI models like ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini.
