Ahead of the upcoming India-Pakistan clash in the ICC World Cup 2023, today, the Jammu and Kashmir Student Association (JKSA) has urged the students hailing from the Kashmir Valley and studying at different universities all over the country to take the game in its spirit and stay away from group screening of the match.

Citing past experiences, the Jammu and Kashmir Student Association (JKSA) has issued an advisory for students studying outside the union territory. The advisory urges them to avoid posting match-related comments on social media that could potentially cause trouble. Instead, the students are encouraged to watch the cricket match as a sports event and refrain from group celebrations or activities that might incite other students and lead to any untoward incidents.

Nasir Khuehami, the National Convenor of the association, emphasized that students should view the India-Pakistan cricket match as just another game and stay clear of any trouble. He stated, “We have urged Kashmiri students studying in different universities of the country, to have their priority set for their education and career for which they have travelled to different parts of the nation.” The association also reminded students of the sacrifices made by their families to provide them with better educational opportunities and career prospects.

The student body urged students not to engage in activities during the cricket match that might lead to indiscipline within any institution across the country or legal troubles. Students are advised to avoid unnecessary debates and discussions.

In the past, India-Pakistan cricket matches have resulted in violence and attacks on Kashmiri students studying in various states of the country. On occasion, even WhatsApp messages have led to the arrest of Kashmiri students. Last year, three Kashmiri students enrolled in RBS Engineering College, Agra, under the PM Special Scholarship Scheme, were arrested for allegedly posting WhatsApp messages praising Pakistan players after their victory against India in a T20 cricket World Cup match.

A few years ago, significant clashes erupted at NIIT Srinagar between local Kashmiri and out-of-state students during an India-Pakistan cricket match, requiring local police intervention to restore order on the NIIT campus.
