IMD Weather Update: Thunderstorms And Lightning Likely Over Jammu-Kashmir, Punjab, And Rajasthan

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued forecasts indicating that thunderstorms and lightning are likely to affect several regions in India.

The IMD weather forecast for Holi that falls on 14th March 2025 is still in the DNI cases model. Isolated light rain and cloudy conditions have been forecast for the plains of Northwest India on Holi. The other states expected to receive fairly to widespread light to moderate rains and some snowfall include J&K, Ladakh, Himachal, Northeastern states, Uttarakhand, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim. The rest of the country would, meanwhile, experience dry weather.

All of this weather is caused by the intrusion of a Western disturbance with the cyclonic circulations over West Afghanistan and southwest Rajasthan. Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, and Himachal are just a few of the areas where thunderstorms and lightning are expected next week. Following a bit of light rains, the By forecast from North India’s is supposed to stabilize, with a gradual drop-in temperature expected in all parts of the West and East countries.

Forecast And Warnings

Amid the changing weather, a Western Disturbance seen as a cyclonic circulation over West Afghanistan in lower tropospheric levels. Another cyclonic circulation lies over southwest Rajasthan & neighbourhood at lower tropospheric levels.

Rainfall/Snowfall Warnings

Thunderstorm & lightning likely over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh Muzaffarabad and Himachal Pradesh during 12th-16th; Scattered to fairly widespread light/moderate rainfall/snowfall accompanied with thunderstorm & lightning likely over Uttarakhand during 13th-16th March and decrease in intensity thereafter.

Additionally, Punjab will receive Isolated light to moderate rainfall likely over Punjab during 12th-16th; Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan during 13th-16th; East Uttar Pradesh on 15th & 16th March. Thunderstorm activity likely over Punjab, Haryana & Chandigarh and West Uttar Pradesh during 13th-16th and Rajasthan on 14th & 15th March.

Temperature Forecast

1. No significant change in maximum temperatures likely over plains of Northwest India during next 48 hours and fall by 2-3°C thereafter.

2. Gradual fall in maximum temperatures by 2-3°C likely over many parts of West India during next 4-5 days.

3. Gradual rise in maximum temperatures by about 2°C likely over Central India during next 3 days and no significant change thereafter.

4. Gradual rise in maximum temperatures by 3-5°C likely over East India during next 5 days.
