IMD Weather Update: Isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan were engulfed by a thick blanket of dense fog on the 12th of January. Visibility is expected to continue to reduce in these states, significantly impacting daily life.
Blocked visibility is likely to pose challenges for commuters in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand from January 13 to 15. Similar conditions will likely persist in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura until today, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
Rain/Thunderstorms/Hailstorm Alert
As a result of a fresh western disturbance, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Assam, and Meghalaya is likely to receive light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning today.
Additionally, a cyclonic circulation that lies over the east Sri Lanka coast & adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal is likely to bring heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal till the 15th of January. Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, and Kerala & Mahe will experience light to moderate rain till the 14th of January.
Another fresh western disturbance is expected to affect northwest India from the night of 14th January, 2025. Under its influence, Isolated rainfall/snowfall activity is likely over Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, and Himachal Pradesh from January 15 to 18. Isolated rainfall activity over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh is also expected on January 15 and16.
Cold Wave Conditions
According to IMD, cold day conditions are very likely in isolated pockets of Northernmost India including Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Rajasthan till the 13th of January.
Fishermen Warning
Fishermen are advised not to venture into South Sri Lanka’s coasts & adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal on the 13th and the Gulf of Mannar & the adjoining Comorin area till the 16th of January.
AQI, Weather Forecast For Delhi
A thick layer of blanket engulfed parts of Delhi/NCR on Monday morning. The Air Quality stood at 285 under the ‘poor’ category at 6 am.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a mostly clear sky in the national capital on January 13-14 and partly cloudy weather on January 15. According to IMD, there has been a rise in minimum temperature in the city up to 01°C during the past 24 hours. The maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded in the range of 15 to 17°C and 8 to 9°C respectively.
