IMD Weather Update: A shift in weather conditions has been witnessed across the country for the past few weeks. March marks the beginning of significant changes in weather patterns, bringing hot and humid conditions to several parts of India. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts a heat wave to sweep Saurashtra and Kutch from 9th till the 12th of March. The other affected states include Konkan & Goa from 9th to 11th and the Gujarat Region from 10th to 12th March.
The Met Body also predicts hot and humid conditions over Konkan & Goa till the 12th of March. The Gujarat Region, Coastal Karnataka, Kerala, and Mahe are expected to endure similar conditions today. Additionally, there will be a gradual rise in maximum temperatures by 3-4°C over Northwest India during the next 4 days and no significant change thereafter. Central & East India and Maharashtra will witness a sharp rise in maximum temperatures by 2-4°C during the next 5 days.
Fishermen Warning
The IMD has warned fishermen against venturing into parts of the southwest Bay of Bengal and along & off the Sri Lanka coast, Gulf of Mannar and adjoining Comorin area, along and off the south Tamil Nadu coast on 10th & 11th March.
Rain/Snow Forecast
Amid the warm conditions, strong surface winds traveling at a speed of 20-30 kmph are likely to prevail over the Indo Gangetic Plains, including Delhi, on 11th & 12th March. Light rain/drizzle is expected in the national capital on the 14th of March, the IMD said.
Meanwhile, the IMD forecasts a fresh Western Disturbance to affect the Western Himalayan region starting from 9th March 2025. Under its influence, scattered fairly widespread light to moderate rain/snowfall is likely to impact Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand till 14th March. Additionally, Punjab, Haryana, and West Uttar Pradesh will receive isolated light to moderate rain on 13th and 14th March.
IMD predicts a cyclonic circulation brewing over central Assam to bring isolated light to moderate rain accompanied with thunderstorms & lightning over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal on 9th March. Additionally, easterly wave activity is expected to bring rain to Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal on the 10th and 11th and over Kerala, Mahe, Lakshadweep & South Interior Karnataka on 11th and 12th March.
