IMD Weather Update: Tamil Nadu, Kerala Brace For Heavy Rain; Thunderstorms Likely In Multiple States

Heavy rainfall is expected to lash a few Southern States over the next few days. In such a condition, citizens must avoid going outside, keep windows and doors closed, and avoid travel if possible.

IMD Weather Update: Andhra Residents must brace up for rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds today, April 6, 2025. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also predicted light showers with strong surface winds traveling at a speed of 40 to 50 Kmph over Kerala & Mahe, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu on Sunday. The rainfall is attributed to two cyclonic circulations brewing over northeast Assam and the southeast Bay of Bengal, respectively.

IMD Forecast For Light Rain And Hailstorms

According to IMD’s press release, Andaman & Nicobar Islands would receive rainfall on the 6th, while Northeast India from 6th to 9th April. Residents and commuters must take the necessary precautions, as rain might lead to traffic disruptions in Bihar, Odisha, West Bengal, and Jharkhand from 7th to 9th April. Meanwhile, the areas likely to be affected by hailstorms include Assam, Meghalaya on 6th, Jammu-Kashmir & Ladakh on 9th April, and Bihar on 8th April.

Heavy Rain To Lash Kerala, Tamil Nadu And Others

The now-affected states include Kerala & Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Meghalaya, and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

IMD Predicts Fresh Western Disturbance

Additionally, IMD has forecasted a fresh Western Disturbance likely to impact the Western Himalayan region from 8th April. Under its influence, scattered to fairly widespread light/moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning & gusty winds (speed 30-40 kmph) are likely over Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand from 8th to 11th April.
