IMD Weather Update: North India is currently battling severe cold wave conditions with temperatures reaching freezing levels across many states. Intense conditions are witnessed particularly in Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued cold day warning in Himachal Pradesh on January 6 and 7. The impact of the winter season will also be felt in Bihar for the next few days.
Heavy Rain In Jammu-Kashmir
According to IMD, a fresh western disturbance is likely to cause fairly widespread rain over Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad and Himachal Pradesh until today.
Additionally, heavy rainfall/snowfall is expected to lash northern states of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttarakhand on Jan 6. Another fresh Western Disturbance is likely to affect Northwest India causing rainfall from Jan 10 to12.
Fog Alert In Punjab Haryana
According to IMD’s latest update and data, very dense fog is likely to block visibility and disrupt rail and road network during late night and early morning hours in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh on January 7. The Met Body has also issued an alert for fog in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura till the 7th of January.
Fishermen Warnings
Fishermen are cautioned against going into Somalia coast, western parts of West-central Arabian Sea, and Southwest Arabian Sea till the 6th of January.
AQI, Weather Forecast For Delhi
The air quality in the national capital continues to remain in ‘very poor’ category. The AQI was recorded at 316 on Monday at 6 am, according to the CPCB. Cold weather conditions persist across Delhi- NCR.
The maximum and minimum temperatures over Delhi are in the range of 18 to 20°C and 08 to 09°C respectively. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted generally cloudy sky with light rain expected to last the capital today. It has issued yellow alert for dense fog.
