IMD Weather Update: Rising Heat To Grip India, Coastal Areas To Experience Hot And Humid Days

As India braces for a hotter-than-usual summer, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings of rising temperatures and heatwaves across the country.

Across several states of India, temperatures are expected to progressively rise, with Northwest, Central and South Peninsular India, expected to incur a 2 to 4 °C rise in maximum temperatures over the next few days. Heat wave conditions will occur in states including Gujarat and Rajasthan, along with many areas of North India, and hot and humid conditions will also occur in coastal regions. After a slight reduction in the maximum temperature forecast in Delhi-NCR, temperatures remain above normal.

Temperature Forecast

1. Gradual rise in maximum temperatures by 2-4°C likely over many parts of Northwest India, Maharashtra and South Peninsular India during next 4 days and fall by 2-3°C during subsequent 3 days.

2. Gradual rise in maximum temperatures by 2-3°C likely over many parts of central India during next 4 days and no significant change during subsequent 3 days.

3. No significant change in maximum temperatures likely over many parts of East India during next 2 days and fall by 2-3°C during subsequent 3 days and no significant change during subsequent 2 days.

Heat Wave And Hot & Humid Weather Warning

1. Heat wave conditions are likely to be isolated to few pockets over Gujarat state during 06th-10th April with severe heat wave conditions at isolated pockets over Saurashtra & Kutch on 06th & 07th April.

2. Heat wave conditions likely over Rajasthan during 06th-10th April with severe heat wave conditions at isolated pockets during 07th-09th April.

3. Heat wave conditions very likely in isolated pockets of Himachal Pradesh on 06th & 07th; Haryana, Chandigarh during 06th-10th; Punjab during 07th -10th; Delhi on 07th & 08th; West Uttar Pradesh during 07th-09th; Madhya Pradesh during 08th-10thApril.

4. Hot & humid weather is likely to prevail over coastal areas of Gujarat State and Konkan & Goa during 06th-09th April

Past Weather In Delhi NCR

There has been no large change in minimum temperature and fall in maximum temperature up to 02°C over Delhi/NCR during the past 24 hours. The maximum and minimum temperatures over Delhi are in the range of 35 to 37 °C and 17 to 21°C respectively. The minimum temperature was near normal and maximum temperature was above normal up to 02°C at most places.

Mainly clear sky conditions with predominant surface wind from the west-northwest direction with wind speeds less than 18 to 20 kmph prevailed during the day time and calm wind during night time the 05.04.2025. Mainly clear sky conditions with wind speed less than 06 kmph from the southwest direction prevailed over the region in the forenoon today
