IMD Weather Update: India is gearing up for a mixed spell of winter weather as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast cold waves, fog, and rainy conditions across the country. Residents must brace for chilly mornings along with dense fog in the coming days. The Weather Body has warned of cold wave conditions to prevail in isolated pockets over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, north-west Jharkhand, and north interior Odisha on December 6 and 7.
Rain to lash Tamil Nadu, Jammu-Kashmir, and…
As northern states continue to experience a sharp dip in temperatures, rain is expected to lash multiple regions. The affected locations are:
- Light to moderate isolated rainfall/snowfall is likely over Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, until December 8, and over Uttarkhand, Himachal Pradesh on December 6 and 7.
- Light to moderate rainfall is expected to batter Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal today.
- Thunderstorm, lightning, along with strong wind blowing at a speed of 30-40 kmph (gusting up to 50 kmph) is likely to prevail over Andaman & Nicobar Islands until December 7.
Cold wave warning
Cold wave conditions are expected to intensify over several regions. Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi,
Northwest Jharkhand and the northern interior of Odisha are expected to reel under chill weather on December 6 and 7. Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh and East Rajasthan will experience biting cold temperatures today.
Dense fog warning
Dense fog conditions are very likely to prevail during early morning hours in isolated pockets of Assam,
Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura until December 10; Himachal Pradesh from 6th to 8th, and over Odisha on 6th and 7th.
Fisherman warning
Fishermen are advised not to venture into the following areas from December 6 to 10: the Southeast Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep, and along & off the Kerala and Karnataka coasts.
Delhi weather forecast
There is no forecast for rain in the next six days. Delhi will see a partly cloudy sky on December 7, with shallow fog shrouding the city during the morning hours. Mainly clear sky along with shallow fog is expected over the capital on December 8. Thereafter, on the 9th, skies will mostly remain partly cloudy. Thereafter, shallow fog will continue to blanket the city until December 11.
