IMD Weather Update: With temperatures reaching freezing levels, particularly in North India, residents are currently grappling with severe cold wave conditions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a cold day warning in parts of Uttar Pradesh till the 8th of January. Extreme winter conditions are also likely to persist in isolated pockets of Rajasthan on January 7.
Heavy Rain/Snowfall Alert Over Northwest India
According to IMD, certain areas are expected to experience rain accompanied with thunderstorm and hailstorm activity during this week. A fresh western disturbance is likely to cause light to moderate rainfall over North-eastern states till the 8th of January. Additionally, isolated hailstorm will likely affect Arunachal Pradesh and Assam on the 7th of January.
Another western disturbance is predicted to bring light to moderate rainfall/snowfall over Western Himalayan region and Northwest India from January 10 to 12.

Fog Alert In Punjab Haryana
According to IMD, a series of dense fog conditions are expected to affect different regions of the country. Visibility and transportation will likely cause significant challenges during late night and early morning hours in Uttar Pradesh from January 7 to 9.
Some parts of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh are expected to witness similar conditions till the 8th of January. The Met Body has also issued an alert for fog in Sub-Himalaya West Bengal and Sikkim today.
Fishermen Warnings
Fishermen are advised not to venture into along and off Somalia coast, western parts of southwest Arabian sea, over Comorin area and adjoining gulf of Mannar today. .
AQI, Weather Forecast For Delhi
The air quality in the national capital was recorded at 310 on Tuesday under the ‘very poor’ category at 6 am, according to the Central Pollution Control Board.
According to IMD, there has been a slight rise in minimum temperature and fall in maximum temperature up to 1°C over Delhi/NCR during the past 24 hours. The maximum and minimum temperatures over Delhi are in the range of 17 to 19°C and 9 to 10°C respectively.
