IMD Weather Update: Rain Alert For Tamil Nadu, Cold Wave To Affect North India; Check Dense Fog & Snowfall Forecast

Severe cold wave conditions are very likely in isolated pockets of Madhya Pradesh on December 15. The cold wave is also expected to affect Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad on Dec 16.

IMD Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted isolated heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, and South Interior Karnataka on December 17 and 18, and in Puducherry from December 15 to 18. Additionally, heavy rain is expected to lash Kerala on December 18, and 19 and isolated places over Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep on December 15. According to IMD’s latest information and data, heavy rainfall is also likely over Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam on Dec 17 and 18.

Different areas of Thoothukudi witnessed waterlogging after heavy rainfall lashed Tamil Nadu over the past three days.

Snowfall/Rain Forecast

A fresh Western Disturbance seen as a trough in middle and upper tropospheric westerlies is very likely to cause Light/moderate rainfall/snowfall in Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh & adjoining areas on December 16 and 17.

Weather Systems

IMD said that a low-pressure area over Lakshadweep & adjoining Maldives area with the associated upper air cyclonic circulation extending up to 5.8 km above main sea level persists and is likely to move westwards, becoming less marked during the next 24 hours.

Cold Wave And Dense Fog Forecast

Severe cold wave conditions are very likely in isolated pockets of Madhya Pradesh on December 15. The cold wave is also expected to affect Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad on Dec 16.

Additionally, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gangetic West Bengal, and Odisha may face severe cold wave conditions on December 15.

IMD has predicted dense fog conditions during late night and early morning hours in isolated pockets of Haryana, Chandigarh, West Uttar Pradesh from December 16 to 18; Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura until December 17.

Fishermen Warnings

Fishermen are advised not to venture along and off Kerala coasts, Lakshadweep, Andaman Sea, and Southwest Bay of Bengal for the time being. Also, IMD said they must avoid going to the South Bay of Bengal, Somalia Coast, and West-central Arabian Sea on Dec 16 and 17.

IMD Weather Forecast For Delhi

Delhi experienced a dip in minimum temperature up to 7°C on Sunday. The overall AQI in the national capital stood at 246 at 7 am.

AQI: According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the following AQIs were reported in different parts of Delhi as of 7 am today: Okhla Phase 2 (233), Alipur (256), Rohini (288), ITO (257), Ashok Vihar (265), Wajipur (273), Shadipur (249), Mundka (317), Jahangirpuri (305), Narela (224), DTO (256), R.K. Puram (251), Anand Vihar (292), Pusa (271), and Punjabi Bagh (279).
