IMD Weather Update: With temperatures going below normal and visibility dropping to zero in several parts of India, residents are experiencing no respite from ongoing weather conditions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a cold day in West Rajasthan on the 8th of January. The impact of winter can also be witnessed in parts of Himachal Pradesh starting today.
Heavy Rain/Snowfall Alert Over Northwest India
According to IMD, isolated rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely to lash Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura today. Additionally, light to moderate rainfall is also expected at isolated places in north-eastern states.
Another western disturbance is predicted to bring light to moderate rainfall/snowfall over Western Himalayan region and Northwest India from January 10 to 12.
Fog Alert In Punjab Haryana
According to IMD, a series of dense fog conditions are expected to cause major disruption in air, rail, and road traffic movement this week. Dense fog will likely persist during late night and early morning hours in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Uttar Pradesh from January 8 to 10.
Different parts of Bihar are expected to witness similar conditions on January 10 and 11. The Met Body has also issued an alert in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Jharkhand, Odisha, and seven sister states (Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura) till the 10th of January.
Ground Frost Conditions
Ground frost conditions are very likely in isolated pockets of Himachal Pradesh during 8th and 9th of January.
Fishermen Warnings
Fishermen are advised not to venture into the northern parts of the south Bay of Bengal on the 9th and the south-west Bay of Bengal & adjoining parts of the south-east Bay of Bengal on the 10th of January.
AQI, Weather Forecast For Delhi
The air quality in the national capital was recorded at 322 on Tuesday under the ‘very poor’ category at 6 am, according to the Central Pollution Control Board.
According to IMD, the minimum temperature in Delhi/NCR has risen slightly by 1°C and fallen by up to 2°C during the past 24 hours.
