IMD Weather Update: Several states have borne the brunt of heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours. Torrential rains continued to disrupt life in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Vidarbha, Goa, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Telangana, Odisha, West Bengal, and Bihar. Amidst this, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that monsoon conditions will remain in an active phase over central, East India, the west coast, and adjoining ghat areas during the next 4 to 5 days.
In view of the upcoming rainy conditions, red and orange alerts are in place for multiple regions. The alert follows the formation of a depression over coastal West Bengal and adjoining areas of the northwest Bay of Bengal and Bangladesh. The monsoon has officially covered the entire country. Some places, including Delhi, however, remain mostly dry due to occasional rains. Delhiites are still waiting for a proper downpour, while rising humidity and stagnant skies add to their discomfort.
Citizens must prepare for potential delays and traffic disruptions, as the weather body has further warned of extreme conditions in the coming days. Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim during July 26th–28th; Bihar during July 26th–30th; Chhattisgarh and East Madhya Pradesh on the 26th; West Madhya Pradesh on the 26th and 27th; Kerala & Mahe, Coastal Karnataka during July 26th–29th; South Interior Karnataka during July 26th–27th; Tamil Nadu, North Interior Karnataka during July 26th–27th; Telangana, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam on July 26th.
According to the Meteorological Department, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Tripura are expected to receive light showers accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning over the next four days. People are also urged to remain cautious, as this year’s showers are expected to be uneven yet intense.
