IMD Weather Update: Heavy Rains To Lash Tamil Nadu, Kerala; Incessant Showers Forecast Across Northeast, East And North India

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Tamil Nadu and Kerala during the next 6 to 7 days, with extremely heavy rainfall expected over Kerala and the ghat areas of Tamil Nadu on August 5.

IMD Weather Update: A spike in monsoon activity across India disrupted life in many parts of the country, and this is likely to continue for the next couple of days, given that the Met office has issued a heavy rain alert in some areas. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu and Kerala during the next 6 to 7 days, with extremely heavy falls expected over Kerala and the ghat areas of Tamil Nadu on August 5.

The spike in rainfall is particularly expected across the western and central parts of India. The Northeast and adjoining East India are also expected to be lashed by persistent rainfall through the week – Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim from August 3 to 8; Gangetic West Bengal on August 7; Jharkhand on August 3; Bihar on August 4, 7, and 8; and Madhya Pradesh on August 3 and 4, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura during Aug 3 to 8.

A wet spell is expected to continue across Delhi-NCR this week. The weather body has predicted that the sky will remain partly cloudy, with very light rainfall likely across the city. Residents are urged to avoid going to low-lying areas or stepping out unnecessarily.

Other affected regions include Jammu & Kashmir from August 4 to 6; Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, and West Uttar Pradesh from August 3 to 6; Uttarakhand from August 3 to 8; Punjab from August 4 to 6; East Uttar Pradesh from August 3 to 5; and northeast Rajasthan on August 3 to 5 and 8.

Residents are advised to stay alert and take precautionary measures to protect themselves from any rain-related incidents. Moreover, they should monitor the IMD’s latest weather bulletins, seek shelter in safe places, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay away from electrically conductive objects.
