IMD Weather Update: Heavy Rainfall Warning For Arunachal Pradesh, Assam; Relief From Heat Likely In Several States

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned against heavy rainfall at isolated places over Bihar and Arunachal Pradesh on 10th April.

IMD Weather Update: Due to two troughs and an upper cyclonic circulation, the weather in several states is set to undergo significant changes. These meteorological conditions are likely to bring light rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (speed 40-50 kmph) over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Kerala & Mahe, Telangana, Karnataka, and Central India on the 10th and 11th of April. Additionally, rain is expected to bring some relief to East and Northeast India from 10th to 13th April.

Heavy Rainfall Warning

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned against heavy rainfall at isolated places over Bihar and Arunachal Pradesh on 10th April. Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim will receive intense showers on the 10th & 11th, while Assam and Meghalaya will witness downpour till the 11th of April.

Hailstorm Warning

An Alert has also been issued for isolated hailstorms on the 10th of April. The affected states are Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh. Meanwhile, Duststorm has been predicted at isolated places over West Rajasthan on 10th and 11th April.

Thundersqall Likely To Impact Uttarakhand

An active Western Disturbance is likely to bring scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorms, lightning, & gusty winds (speed 40-50 kmph) over Jammu-Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand from 10th to 12th April. The Met Body has also forecasted thundersquall (wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph) at isolated places over Uttarakhand on 10th and 11th April.

What Is Cyclonic Circulation And Trough?

Cyclonic circulation is a counter-clockwise flow of wind, particularly in the Northern Hemisphere, usually formed around a low-pressure area. Meanwhile, a trough refers to an elongated area of low pressure. It is where winds converge, bringing lift and precipitation.

Precautionary Measures

➢ Residents are advised to stay indoors and avoid travel if possible.
➢ Take safe shelters and avoid taking refuge under trees.
➢ Do not lie down on concrete floors or lean against concrete walls.
➢ Unplug electrical/ electronic appliances, if not in use
➢ Avoid going near water bodies.
