IMD Weather Update: Unpredictable weather conditions have brought significant changes across different states in the country. While many are regions are experiencing light to intense downpours, others are facing the wrath of heatwave. As per the latest update, rain lashed parts of Madurai on Monday morning causing delay and disrupting the traffic movement. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted more rain in Tamil Nadu and neighbouring areas.
Light Rain To Lash Southern States
Light rainfall accompanied by lightning, thunderstorms and gusty winds is predicted at isolated places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Kerala & Mahe on the 7th of April and over Karnataka till the 8th. The rain is attributed to two cyclonic circulations and a north-south trough. North east residents, particularly in Assam, Meghalaya must brace up for heavy rainfall most likely to occur on 9th and 10th April.

Jammu-Kashmir To Receive Heavy Rain On…
According to IMD’s official press release, Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, and Bihar residents will witness isolated hailstorms on 9th April. Additionally, due to a fresh Western Disturbance brewing over Western Himalayan region, many northern regions will see significant change in weather trends from 8th April. The affected states likely to experience light rain, lightning, thunderstorms, and squally winds on 9th and 10th April are Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
IMD Warns Against Squally Winds
Andaman & Nicobar Islands is expected to receive light to moderate rain during the next 6 to 7 days. Meanwhile, IMD has issued a warning for squally winds traveling at a speed of 35 to 45 kmph and later gusting to 55 kmph over Andaman Sea, southeast Bay of Bengal, and adjoining central Bay of Bengal from 7th to 9th April, 2025.

Cyclonic circulation is a counter-clockwise flow of wind, particularly in the Northern Hemisphere, usually formed around a low-pressure area. Meanwhile, a trough refers to an elongated area of low pressure. It is where winds converge, bringing lift and precipitation.
