IMD weather update – Heavy rain likely to disrupt Dussehra celebrations in Odisha, Bengal, Karnataka and more – Check Forecast

IMD Weather Update: Multiple states, including Karnataka, West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Odisha, are bracing for heavy rainfall on Thursday, October 2, 2025. The torrential showers, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds, are likely to disrupt the Dussehra celebrations today. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted intense showers to lash parts of East, Central, West, South Peninsular, and Northeast India.

According to IMD, a fresh western disturbance looms over Northwest India from October 5 to 7

East and Central India: Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms has been predicted over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, and Bihar till October 6. Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, West, and Madhya Pradesh will witness showers till October 4. Meanwhile, very heavy rainfall has been predicted over Odisha and Bihar on October 2 and 3. The other affected regions, likely to see thunderstorms and gusty winds until this week, are the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Odisha.

Northeast India: The IMD has forecast light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds over Assam, Meghalaya, and Tripura till October 3.

South Peninsular India: Rain is set to lash Tamil Nadu during October 2-4 and Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam today. Additionally, strong surface winds (speed reaching 30-40 kmph) are very likely over Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Rayalaseema, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu til October 5.

Northwest India: Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over East Uttar Pradesh from October 3 to 6; Jammu-Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh on the 6th and 7th; Rajasthan and Punjab on the 6th.

West India: Light to moderate rain and thunderstorms are likely over Saurashtra, Kutch, on October 2, and over the ghats of Madhya Maharashtra and Marathawada on October 4.
