IMD Weather Update: The current weather conditions due to cyclonic circulation, western disturbances, and troughs have led to varied weather patterns. Significant weather changes are expected in the coming days accompanied by rainfall, thunderstorms, and other phenomena. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts a trough extending from Rayalaseema to South Chhattisgarh along with an anti-cyclonic circulation over the north Bay of Bengal.
Under its influence, scattered light to moderate rain with strong winds speed traveling at a speed of 40 to 60 kmph is expected over Odisha on February 22 and 23. Gusty winds coupled with rain, thunderstorms, and lightning are also likely over Gangetic West Bengal and Jharkhand until tomorrow. Additionally, IMD predicts light showers over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, and Bihar on 22nd and 23rd Feb. Meanwhile, heavy rain/snowfall is expected to batter Andaman & Nicobar Islands on the 25th & 26th of February.
Fresh Western Disturbance To Affect Northwest India
According to IMD, Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh will likely receive fairly widespread light to moderate on the 25th, 26th, and 27th of February. Heavy rain/snowfall at isolated places is likely over J&K, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad from 25 to 27 Feb. West Uttar Pradesh and West Rajasthan will receive rain on 27th February 2025. Additionally, isolated light/moderate rainfall is expected over Karnataka on the 21st & 22nd, thereafter over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam & Rayalaseema from the 21st to the 23rd and over Kerala & Mahe during the next 7 days.
Cyclonic Circulation Over Nagaland
IMD has warned against an upper air cyclonic circulation brewing over Nagaland in lower tropospheric levels. Under its influence, isolated to scattered light rainfall activity is likely over Northeast India and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim during the next 7 days. Thunderstorm & lightning is expected over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and Meghalaya from 21st to 23rd Feb.
Dense Fog
According to IMD’s latest update and data, dense fog conditions will prevail during night/early morning hours in isolated pockets of Himachal Pradesh till the 22nd and in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim till the 24th of February. Visibility between 50-199 m was reported in isolated pockets of isolated pockets of Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and East Rajasthan.
