IMD Weather Update: After a continued spell of rain lashed different parts of the country, a notable dip in temperature was witnessed at many places. Residents experienced some respite after days of intense heat, particularly during the nighttime. However, significant changes in weather conditions continue to loom as the India Meteorological Department has sounded an alert in several cities. The current conditions are attributed to a mix of weather systems, such as Western Disturbances, upper cyclonic circulations, and troughs.
Torrential Rains To Lash Multiple States
The Met Department has warned against isolated heavy rainfall over Odisha today and over the Nicobar islands till 8th May 2025. An alert against intense downpour has also been sounded for West Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh during 6- 8th May. Residents of South India are urged to take necessary precautions as torrential rains are expected to lash Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam till 6th May. The other affected regions, likely to see similar conditions, include Kerala & Mahe (7th & 8th), Assam and Meghalaya (5th- 8th), and Arunachal Pradesh (5th- 7th), Gujarat (5th- 8th).

Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, and Sikkim must brace for more rain till 6th, and Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha & Chhattisgarh from 5th to 8th May. Additionally, light showers accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (reaching 50 kmph) is likely to hit Gujarat, Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathawada till 8th May.

According to IMD’s latest press release, a warning for thundersquall (wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph) is likely over Madhya Maharashtra on 6th & 07th; Marathawada on 7th; Gujarat from 5th-8th May; Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam (5th May), Uttarakhand on (6th & 7th) Punjab, Haryana Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh (5th), West Rajasthan (5th-7th May).
